It’s nearly the end of the 1st day of 2011 -high time that I got on with writing the first entry in my brand new art blog and declaring my intentions to the world. I want this to be a creative year. Just so we can be clear on that. A creative year, okay???
A year where I get to be a bit naughty and a bit selfish – and start to put myself first sometimes. For my own sanity I know I need to do that. I love being a parent (okay – MOST of the time I love being a parent ….) but my kids are growing up, and it’s time I start to think about what I’m going to do when they race off to live their own wonderful adventures without me.
For people who know me this might all sound a bit ridiculous. After all, my kids are only just on the verge of 13 and 15 – hardly adults just yet! But already I can see they want me to move to the background a bit more – and that’s fair enough. I’ll be there for them whenever they need me – but I don’t want them to think of me as a person who didn’t have interests of her own, or other things to do. What sort of message would that be?
I want my kids to know that we are never too old to learn something new or challenge ourselves. I am hardly the “parachute out of a plane” type person, so my challenge to myself is to improve my artwork by getting in lots and lots of practice. And to share that with other people if I can – to have the fun of belonging to more of a community of like minded people. Because creativity can be a bit lonely sometimes if we let it. Thus this blog.
So this is it. My creative year. My more than usually creative year. Time to get started!
