Another addition to my collage of square canvases – my take on one of Klimt’s works – after we visited the Vienna: Art & Design exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. After looking at his work in books it was pretty fabulous to be admiring his enormous murals, with their golden angels and complicated patterns. I love the idea of contrasting realistic artwork against flat pattern – and it is pretty reminiscent of the latest craze of zentangling.
This painting took me a couple of weeks, but I really enjoyed the chance to use my metallic paints, and get out the glitter glue for the jewellery (possibly not something Klimt would have done, but maybe that was only because he didn’t have any?).
You gotta love a bit of sparkle.
PS: Three years after writing this post I saw the movie Woman in Gold which told the story behind the painting of Adele Bloch-Bauer that inspired me. If you haven’t seen it, I really suggest you do.
